Training as an individual to learn the basics of handling a 70 ft. ocean racing yacht, spinnaker trimming and race tactics is one thing, but to put it into practice with a new crew on day 1 of a race is quite another. Team Unicef has had a difficult week with errors handling the “kite” and going backwards near Ushant because of their late arrival when the tide turned against them.

The Race Start weekend
This is the weekend we have all been waiting for. Whether you are a “Round the World-er” or a “Legger”, someone doing one or more legs, this is the weekend when the boats start their 11 month adventure around the world. And I am part of this!!.
St Katharine’s Docks in London has been taken over by Clipper and the marina is transformed into a Race Village with sponsor tents, events, presentations and a lot of media attention.
Friday night a crew party and Saturday our Unicef Crew Party.
The Race Village in London opens in four weeks
The long awaited opening of the Race Village at St Katharine Docks, London is now just four weeks away today.
On Saturday 22 August the central London marina will be taken over by the Clipper 2015-16 Race with daily live entertainment and free open boat tours, as well as numerous food stalls and merchandise stands.
