Den Helder has been announced as the European stop-over, the last stop before the finish of the race in London on 30th July 2016.
Den Helder is not only the town where I was born 61 years ago, it was also the town where my Round the World trip idea was conceived.I remember exiting the railway station in Den Helder late on a Friday night on a visit to my mum and seeing a small billboard at the corner of the “Juliana Plein” and “Beatrix straat”. It read “Clipper boats arriving on Saturday”. At the time I did not think much of it, other than “good, will go and see these big ships at the harbour”.
Picking up the Race Magazine at the Clipper tent I was immediately sold on the idea and the rest of the storey you will find in my blog started at “The Start of a Crazy idea”
So far it has been an amazing journey, learning to safely sail a 70 foot ocean racing yacht, joining an incredible crew of friends in an “once in a lifetime” challenge and supporting such a worthwhile cause Unicef “For Every child in Danger”.
